The unintended expatriate blogger behind Pure Pine Cloth

Hello, I'm Sophie
I'm a project manager. a parent. Expat living in Berlin, Germany.
Several years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter abroad.
How It Began
Moving to Germany wasn’t in our long-range plan. Like many expatriate relocations, it started as a job possibility and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, and rising expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complicated than they should.
The Adjustment Period
Culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing characterized that time. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We discovered places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.
What Motivated Me to Create Pure Pine Cloth
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance based on real life in Germany.
What This Site Represents (And What It Does Not)
This site DOES include:
- Hands-on experience from living in Germany
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site is not:
- A tourism authority resource
- A sponsor-funded review platform
- A general travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Germany goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, please get in touch.
Best regards,
Sophie
